Jim Colvin, LLB
Jim leads our aggressive growth strategy by drawing on his experience as a tech CEO, tech investor, and tech/IP lawyer, specializing in start-up and growth-stage companies. Over the past five years, Jim has taken Serious Labs from a struggling tech company to being a world leader in the field of virtual reality-based industrial training simulators.
Jim is passionate about empowering our deep well of talent to succeed, while ensuring our clients and partners prosper. Jim holds a law degree from the University of London, while his NCA accreditation comes from the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria. He focused his practice on intellectual property and business law.
Lyle Edwards, CPA, CA, BComm, BSc
Lyle brings vast experience in senior managerial and corporate accounting to Serious Labs as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Following his reception of a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and admission to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Alberta, Lyle was involved in accounting roles for major clients with Deloitte. He later moved into various executive positions and was responsible for over $500MM in company assets. In addition to corporate finance, Lyle has extensive experience in private equity, and has proven his leadership qualities serving as a board member and chairman of several organizations. Lyle is also actively involved in the community, serving as a member and manager of local sports teams, organizations and neighborhood strengthening programs.
Ahmed Jomha, LLB
A practicing barrister and solicitor, Ahmed (AJ) brings expertise in business law, real estate, wills and estate law. As a long-term investor in Serious Labs, his extensive business background and governance skills are essential to our board. Outside of his professional and family life, AJ is an accomplished lacrosse player, donating much of his free time to coaching children and youth.
Paul Perras, CET
With over 30 years of experience in the electrical industry, Paul plays a key advisory role in the board’s strategic planning. As the owner and founder of Peco Electrical, he has led the company’s power generation, control and data acquisition services for over 25 years. Paul’s strong business acumen has grown Peco’s annual sales from $15MM to $20MM.
Brad Boehler
Brad Boehler is a veteran leader in the manufacturing, construction and safety industries. As a Professional Engineer, he has held a variety of influential positions with major manufacturers and global industry associations, including 8 years as president of Skyjack, an organization he grew into a major global supplier.
He has been the President of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and sat on the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) CE Sector Board. Brad currently serves a Board Member of Custom Equipment, a leading designer and manufacturer of low-level access lifts and as a Board Advisor for Vita Inclinata, a technology company that controls the movement of slung loads from helicopters and cranes.
Terry Freeman
Terry Freeman is Head of Investments for ATB Capital, the private equity arm of ATB Financial, making minority equity investments in Alberta based companies. In the past he served as Managing Director of Northern Plains Capital, a niche private equity firm specializing in growth oriented oil field services and energy industrial investments. Mr. Freeman also spent fifteen years as Chief Financial Officer of Flint Energy Services Ltd. and its predecessors, where he managed the financial and administrative operations of the company including investor and banking relations, risk management, mergers and acquisitions and various other executive responsibilities and its growth from $20M to over $2B in revenues. He spent five years on the Board of Flint following his tenure as Chief Financial Officer until its eventual sale. He currently sits on the boards of a number of public and private construction, energy services, private equity and real estate ventures. Mr. Freeman has held multiple volunteer positions with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta, Chief Financial Officer Leadership Program, the University of Alberta, and various other community and charitable organizations. Mr. Freeman graduated from the University of Alberta in 1982 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Cheemin Bo-Linn, PhD
Cheemin brings extensive experience as an executive and board member in the technology, safety, and data sectors. An inductee for the Hall of Fame for Women in Technology and Science, she leverages her significant expertise to support Serious’ Labs growth and alignment with cutting-edge trends in our sector.
